The Scanning Sight on the Sea Level
By chance, I took a sightseeing boat at the Port of Kaohsiung, and stumbled upon the crane that is used to transport shipping containers. I thought it looked like a mechanical giraffe in red and white, standing by the port and guarding the ships coming and going. It’s interesting to see my town from a different perspective. Enjoying the scenery by the port at night, I found that even an industrial city could be romantic. I hope that through this piece, the audience will discover the lovable side of steel, as well as an aspect of Kaohsiung that is rarely seen.

Chih-Yun Lu
Chih-Yun Lu is the only female steel sculpture artist in this year’s exhibition. Her previous works highlighted human behavior through cute animals. She studied stone sculpture and metal works in university, and her recent works feature compound media and streamline designs. She is back to working with metal for this year’s Kaohsiung International Steel & Iron Sculpture Festival and attempted to create the largest artwork she has ever done. This piece is a giraffe that highlights the Port of Kaohsiung; it displays beauty in order, as well as the loveliness of steel and romanticism of Kaohsiung.
