Personal statement of the Exhibition
“Coexist with White”
As one of the most important parts, the white could fully reveal the atmosphere of my painting.
A predecessor artist who focussed on printmaking once described that, each cut in his work seemed like slicing a beam of white light from the darkness, as if creating a new world. In sharp contrast, we painters are covering up the blank white background little by little.
Could it be said that we are concealing the light in this case?
For me, the answer is certainly negative. I am coexisting with the light, the white.
I am always negotiating with the white paper, to explore how to coexist with it, to an extent that the desired atmosphere could be expressed and the characteristics of the white background also be maintained.
I have been frequently asked that, what topic on earth would I like to express with my paintings?
Here, it would be greater if you could simply appreciate and enjoy my work for the moment, rejecting any compulsory thought of understanding my topic and objective. With luck, a bit of sympathetic response could be generated between us.
In an era full of over-developed medium information, the majority of people have gained and been accustomed to a great amount of fast-food style accessible information. In most cases, the viewer of an exhibition would like to hastily comprehend the design concept as soon as he/she enters the space. It seems that the attention is paid more to what the artist want to express, rather than what he/she experiences in the exhibition personally, and the viewer tends to be anxious about guessing the purpose of the artist and whether the right answer has been achieved.
However, the painting represents a way of communication between the painter and the spiritual world of viewers.
It includes my illusion, the beauty that is witnessed by my own eyes, the love that couldn’t be properly conveyed, and the cherished memory that is too implicit to explain, as well as my fear and hesitation in the heart, my silent determination and persistence. Frequently, I open my mouth and want to say something to you, but have no idea of how to properly communicate with you, and just keep silent finally. Even so, I am still eager to show my inner world to you, with a communicative.
We always have enough petty tricks to disguise ourselves, yet without enough wisdom of how to relieve the pressure of being an emotional blind alley or how to show our true love.
Regardless, for me, my painting represents who I am, and your comprehension reflects who you are.
Both of us are unique and distinct in the world.
